First Look - Batman Miniatures Game - The Miniatures

Today we are going to take a look at the heroes, villians and the rank and file that are going to be fighting in the mean streets of Gotham.

One thing that you will notice pretty quickly about this range of miniatures is that there are various versions of the same character. This works well as it draws more people in, for example the two Batmans below. One is from the Batman tv series that ran from 1966 to 1968 and the other is from the video game Batman Arkham Knight which released this year. Not just aesthetics are different, they both have different styles of play as well. Adam West Batman for example is more fragile and has cheesier style abilities whereas Arkham Knight Batman is the kind of Batman you would find in the thick of combat. As you may be able to tell by the length of this article that the range is pretty extensive and is slowly being added to every month or so.

Batman
Here we have Adam West and the Arkham Knight Batman. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Dark Knight Rises and Frank Miller Batman are also represented in this model range. As you would expect Batman has plenty of gadgets at his disposal.

Sidekicks
Almost all of the gangs you can take sidekicks. These two are examples of sidekicks that Batman can have. Both Nightwing and Robin are both from the Arkham series of games but you can also get people such as Damien Wayne from the comics.

Law Forces
As you would expect from the officers of the law, lots of guns. The Law forces come in two flavors in Gotham. Corrupt and Non Corrupt. This allows you to either field a mainly officer force with some allies such as Batman or you can be corrupt and work with another gang. For example just now i am running a corrupt SWAT team with my Black Mask gang. Everyone has their price it seems.

 The Joker
Pretty much the most iconic face in Batmans rogues gallery. The Joker comes in many forms two from the Arkham games pictured above and then you have the Dark Knight version from the films. Jokers gang probably at the moment has the largest diversity when it comes to goons. From guys to shields to bulked up titan clowns, The Joker player has plenty to choose from.

The Penguin
This was Knight Models first nod towards the Gotham Tv Show with this young Oswald Cobblepot. You can also get him short and fat like from the comics and Arkham games. He can take more Free agents than anyone else and like the Joker has access to a large amount of goons.

The Court of Owls
This is a secret society that kidnaps circus performers and trains them to become assassins. So as you may expect this gang is very maneuverable and pretty lethal in close combat.

The Riddler
The Riddler comes in a very Jim Carey style look or as his more mechanic look from Arkham Knight with his robot goons. As you would expect he is great at the riddle objectives.

Black Mask
Sharp suits, black masks and brutality are what this gang are about though at the moment the models you see here are the only ones specific to the faction so you have to rely on outside help. From what is in the range already though have a lot of character to them. Cant wait to see what else we get for them.

Bane
Bane comes in non titan Arkham origins, titan Asylum and the Dark Knight Rises form. A lot of his goons have a very mercenary and military look to their gear.

 Film/Other Franchises
For when you want to recreate you favorite scenes from the films. I must admit Nolans Batman films/The Arkham game series are what really got me into Batman so its nice to be able to field some of the characters I can relate to more until I do a bit more exploring into the universe. You can even field the Watchmen as a gang of their own.

Free Agents
These are guys that can fight for almost anyone [Deathstroke can fight for everyone except Law Forces, Batman and Green Arrow for example.] They range in terms of power, with Deathstroke being a killing machine, others like Scarecrow can help solve riddles to gain victory points whilst influencing how other characters activate.

Conclusion
Knight Models is doing a very good job of supporting this game by constantly bringing out new models. With needing only a few models to start this game it can be fairly cheap to buy into. It helps when you can get the unit cards and even the rulebook for free on Knight Models website.
