Time for a clash between the Royalist and Parliamentarian forces in the English Civil War using Warlord Games Pike & Shotte rules.
The Parliamentarian forces advance onto the table.
A large build up of forces on the Parliamentarian side.
Parliamentarian Cavalry rush to take the center
Parliamentarian left flank move into position.
After several delays the Royalists finally decide to show up.
The Cavalry charge towards each other.
The Royalist right flank appears.
Moving up to secure the Parliamentarian left flank.
The calm before the storm.
Making use of all the space
Battles lines are formed on the Parliamentarian right flank.
The first big clash of the game, pistols being shots from both sits, only the cavalry on the right having enough range to make contact.
The Royalists gain ground in the middle.
The Parliamentarian left pushes up to stop any chance of a flank attack.
The Parliamentarians make ground on the opposite side of the center.
Seeing a gap the Royalist Cavalry push forward to attack.
Breaking them...
and causing the nearby Cavalry to flee from the field.
Whats left of the Parliamentarian Cavalry launches a last ditch attack.
More of the troops moving into position in the center.
The heroic unit that taken out two units of Cavalry is broken from constant enemy gunfire.
The last ditch attempt pays off, throwing back the cavalry to where the fight began.
The Scots Lancers finally decide to show up.
The Royalist right flank decides to join the center.
The Scots draw a battle line.
Then start paying for it dearly.
The Lancers even start to take a beating.
Another unit of cavalry is broken by gunfire.
The Cavalry having been reduced to a shadow of their starting strength return to their respective lines.
The Scots warriors ready to charge.
Consolidation of an empty flank.
Fire is exchanged between the cannons.
The Scots are shot to bits before they even get a charge off.
The Royalist Cavalry shows up in the middle, a little too late.
How the battle lines looked at the end.
Conclusion
The Royalist Cavalry valiantly charged into combat but were picked off piecemeal as the rest of the Royalist army were reluctant to get into the fight, by then not much could be achieved. It was interesting to play in a period I must admit I know very little about. Which I will have to change by reading up on the conflicts of this time. The rules are pretty much the same of Hail Caesar or Black Powder so I picked them up quickly.
